Congrats to the founder of MDIC - Prof. Fong-Ching Su honoured by the MOST Outstanding Research Award

 

The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) announced the MOST Outstanding Research Award. 7 of the 80 award recipients are from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), including the Medical Device Innovation Center founder – Professor Fong-Ching Su, from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, NCKU.  Prof Su received a sum of NT$900,000 and a certificate from MOST.

The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) has established the MOST Outstanding Research Award to encourage scientific and technological talents who have outstanding research performance to devote themselves to a career of fundamental or applied research to improve the level of Taiwan's academic research and academic status in the international community. This will, in turn, facilitate the benefits of social development and industrial application while highlighting the diverse value of Taiwan's research efforts, which will ultimately boost the country's technological capacity. There are 80 academics and researchers who received the award in 2022.

 

 

According to the Operation Guidelines for the MOST Outstanding Research Award. In addition to meeting the qualifications required for principal investigators of MOST-granted research projects, candidates must meet the following prerequisites:

1. For fundamental research:

Having a research outcome that focuses on refuting or supporting scientific theories and meeting one of the following requirements: 

(1) Delivers a research outcome that offers academic originality or substantial academic value;

(2) Delivers a research outcome with theoretical innovation that significantly impacts and contributes to academic development. 

2. For applied research:

Having a research outcome that focuses on solving practical issues by bringing prospective technological innovation to aspects of economy, society, public welfare, environmental sustainability, industry, and so forth or knowledge/technology that improves the standard of living for mankind by making substantial and concrete contributions.

 

Professor of Biomedical Engineering Department in NCKU, Dr Fong-Ching Su, also known as Vice President of NCKU and Director of Alumni Association Center, mainly specializes in biomechanics research Biomedical Engineering, Human Motion Analysis and Rehabilitation engineering. Prof. Su also received Lifetime Achievement Award from the Taiwanese Society of Biomechanics in 2018 and led the Medical Device Innovation Center (MDIC) to win the National Industrial Innovation Award (NIIA) from the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) of Taiwan in 2017.
