Academic visit │Esteemed Delegation from Tokyo University of Technology visit NCKU

In a significant move toward strengthening international academic ties, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) recently welcomed a distinguished delegation from the Tokyo University of Technology (TUT) to Tainan, Taiwan.

The visit brought together leading minds in technology and design to explore groundbreaking research and foster future collaborations between the two prestigious institutions. The esteemed visiting group included Professors Michitaka Hirose, Teiji Yutaka, Kazuma Aoyama, and Ryoko Ueoka, all of whom represent the cutting edge of Japanese engineering and interactive media.

The tour began at the Medical Device Innovation Center (MDIC), where the delegation was warmly received by Chair Professor Fong-Chin Su, the center's founding and current director. During this session, the guests were treated to a series of specialized presentations highlighting NCKU's diverse expertise in medical engineering.

Professor Peng-Ting Chen, Professor Che-Wei Lin, and Dr. Charlie Ma each shared their latest research findings, offering a comprehensive look at the innovative projects currently driving the center's success. These presentations underscored NCKU’s leadership in the biomedical sector and its commitment to transforming clinical challenges into practical technological solutions.

The exchange continued at the Department of Industrial Design, led by Professor Chien-Hsu Chen. Here, the visitors explored the Ergonomics and Interaction Design Lab and the Intelligent Teaching Room, a state-of-the-art facility sponsored by NVIDIA. This stop highlighted the seamless integration of human-centered design with advanced artificial intelligence and computational power.

Further demonstrating NCKU's commitment to entrepreneurship, the delegation visited Professor Yang-Cheng Lin's laboratory and his successful startup, aiFree. The group discussed the practical applications of AI in daily life and the university's robust ecosystem for academic spin-offs.

The visit concluded at the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, where Department Chair Professor Shyh-Hau Wang introduced the delegation to the Biomedical Ultrasound System Lab. The presentation showcased sophisticated imaging technologies and the computational frameworks driving the next generation of diagnostic tools.

This interactive visit not only showcased NCKU's multidisciplinary research strengths but also laid a solid foundation for enduring partnership and innovation between Taiwan and Japan.
