[1] Cardiovascular Sound Pattern Analysis System (CSPA)

 

CSPA is a convenient, cost-effective, non-invasive wearable medical device. It measures haemodynamics by special acoustic detector on radial artery and transmits data to mobile device simultaneously. It is designed for vital signs monitoring and health care management to measure and record haemodynamics for a long period. Currently, our team focus on developing a comfortable and long-time wearable wrist device. The IRB study and verifications are also ongoing. In the near future, we will integrate supply chain of key parts and set up GMP factory to assure final product quality. We will create our own brand for mobile health market and care service market.

   

[2] Portable Proprioception Measuring Instrument 

 

Falls of the elders are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality.The proprioception is used to analyze the sensory information that contributes to the sense of position and movement. Proprioception measuring instrument could show information on blance ability. In the elders medicine and seniors checkup ,we designed service to take care your health. 

 

[3] Thermoneedle

 

The Hyperthermia Needling System is designed by ourselves including power driver, induction heating needle and temperature controller. We have currently devoted to develop Hyperthermia Needling System that cure patient of liver cancer, however in future we will  customized design to treat in different part tumor. The key techniques of hyperthermia needling system is temperature control and needle design. Temperature heating control involve ablating tumor size range. Thickness degree of needle affect the patient felt more comfortable and safe during surgery.  For this reason, our technology can improve above problems.

Our team members have two passion youngsters, professor in Mechanical Engineering department and physician in NCKU Hospital. we hope we can become talents in medical field in Taiwan.

 

[4] Novel Bladder Irrigation Solution

 

Our team developed a novel bladder irrigation solution applied to perfuse long-term indwelling catheter patients for decrease infection. Primarily for long-term indwelling catheter patients, such as pregnant woman, Parkinson disease, cortical strokes, brain tumors, normal pressure hydrocephalus, traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer-type dementia, and dysfunction of the lower urinary tract. But long-term use of indwelling urethral (Foley) or suprapubic catheters might lead to frequent urinary tract infections (UTIs) or sepsis. Furthermore, long-term treatment with antibiotics can result in bladder infection by resistant organisms.   

Therefore, we used high absorption properties active carbon fiber powder as suspension. Therefore, we used high absorption properties active carbon fiber powder as suspension, and then through the lavage way to absorb bacteria and odor, you can solve the problem of long-term use of urinary catheters in patients with smell arising, cystitis edema and reduce the production of stone phenomenon.

At present, we are cooperation with SPARK program to verify the effectiveness of the product, and finish complete animal experiments, a further application for human clinical trials.

 

[5] Rapid Genetic Mutation Diagnosis Team

 

(1) Early tumor diagnosis: screening some specific genetic mutations combined with the health examination for prevention of cancer

(2) Patients need to find some specific genetic mutations corresponds the specific targeted-therapy. Patients do not need to accept invasive biopsy and  reducing the cost of hospitalization and complications.

(3) For some specific genetic mutations can assist physicians assess treatment response and early detection of recurrence and reducing the cost of  unnecessary CT or PET examination. 

 

[6] Intelligent Inhaler that automatically detect and spray

 

The number of patients suffered from asthma or COPD will increase due to the aging, air pollution as well as the climate aberrance. The intelligent inhaler developed by our team equipped with the auto-spraying function which is active based on the inhale action to warrant the coordination between spray and inhale. This inhale device not only provides better treatment effect and life-saving possibility during extreme respiratory failure.

icPad (isolation coupling pad) is an innovated medical device as a coupling medium that can replace the currently used silica gel for ultrasonic procedures.  icPad, a sterile disposable gel pad, can prevent cross contamination between ultrasonic probes and the patients. icPad is made from high density polymer and biocompatible materials for better ultrasound image quality and patient safety management.

 

[8] Upper-gastrointestinal-bleeding monitoring system

 

The goals of the startup team are to develop a monitoring system, which is able to detect whether upper gastrointestinal rebleeding happens after treatment. The monitoring system consists of a bleeding detector inside a stomach and an external processor carried by a user. The detector consistently checks whether blood exists or not. The processor are responsible for receiving signals from the detector and alarming if blood is found.

[1] An Electromagnetic Thermotherapy System for Bloodless Surgery and Percutaneous Thermal Ablation

 

Electromagnetic thermotherapy has been extensively investigated recently and may become a new surgical modality for a variety of medical applications. It applies a high-frequency alternating magnetic field to heat up magnetic materials inserted within the human body to generate tissue coagulation or cell apoptosis. Using a new procedure with dual-row needle arrays under an electromagnetic thermotherapy system with a feedback temperature control system, this study demonstrates bloodless porcine liver resection, which is challenging using existing methods.

 

[2] Multi-functional formula coated on various materials by customized roll to roll machine form a thin membrane.

 

The core technique developed by our team is multi-functional formula. The formula can be coated on various materials such as plastic, mental and paper by customized roll to roll machine to form a thin membrane. The prosperities of the membrane are oil-resist, high breathability and anti-bacterial in which can be integrated in one single membrane.

 

[3] Automated tuberculosis detection system

 

Due to many positive and suspected TB patients, hospital needs to perform huge amount of TB specimen testing daily. Our “automatic microscopic examination and identification of TB” system can not only reduce the testing burden of medical technicians but also reduce the human errors and therefore increase the TB detection rate which is beneficial to patients.

 

[4] Injectable drug-eluting microsphere for embolization and local therapy

Transcatheter Arterial Chemo-Embolization (TACE) is one of the major embolic treatment modalities using microspheres to treat hepatoma, an important fatal disease found mostly in southeastern regions of people. All the embolic agents like microspheres or particles currently used for this treatment in Taiwan are mainly imported and yet they have much room for improvements in terms of the spherical beads’ properties like radio-opaque and biodegradable during embolization.

 

[5] A novel platform for highly efficient gene manipulation

 

Our team plan to develop a novel high-speed PCR platform that can amplify specific gene sequence through electromagnetic waves, and up to tens of thousands of base pairs per minute. This unique technology will use electromagnetic wave as heating source to improve the current PCR method. The significance of gene manipulation through electromagnetic waves is not only a state of the art in biotechnology, but also showed great market potential in socio-economic.

[1] Translational Program of Medical Device for Dental Implant, Oral and Maxillofacial Reconstruction Surgery

 

Based on clinical requirements, our previsous study have developed many customized medical devices for dental, oral and maxillofacial surgery. We have provided services to tissue models fabrications and dental implant devices for over 600 human trials collected from surgery, dental clinics mainly in NCKU hospital. Currently, several VCs are interesting in funding our prject into startup company and negoiation is processed.

 

[2] Automated Tuberculosis Detection System

 

Auto-focusing technology was developed.  When field of view was moved, re-focusing was applied to obtain a clear microscopic image. A technique similar to staining used 400x microscopic image. In the same scanned area, this technique can significantly reduce the testing time. An automatic microscopic examination and identification of TB system was developed. By three steps: Standardization of smear images, TB detection and TB identification, acid-fast staining TB images could be accurately identified.

 

[3] Development of low-cost, fast, and accurate blood type and cross-matching test card ABO Blood typing

 

ABO blood typing must detect the cell grouping and serum grouping by antigen and antibody reaction in the blood bank. Smart blood test card (SB card) can be used for rapid blood typing and blood cross-matching test during blood bank detection. This card presents a low cost, fast, and accurate innovative medical devices to relieve the personnel shortage in blood bank, reduce medical costs, as well as provide a safe blood transfusion environment.

The standard treatment options for liver cancer are resection, cautery, embolization and chemotherapy. As the tumor grows up to 3-4cm in diameter, resection is no longer a good option, patients are advised to accept embolization to impede tumor growth. The pharmexphere is totally made of pharmaceutical excipients having good biocompatiblility. It's radiopaque under X-ray and CT scan which helps radiologists to precisely position the catheter and release. The easier operation for radiologists, the more efficient treatment it may achieve.
